 PhD student Alex recently presented her research on hops at the Women in STEM event at the SDSU campus on October 23 - we're en route sequencing a hundred hop genomes to study their evolutionary history. We can't wait to share updates on this project!

 Anais presented her thesis work at the GEOBON 2023 conference in Montreal this week. She developed a new machine learning method to predict conservation status of animal species using population genomic, ecological, behavioral, geographical, and other data.  Our lab's fourth BMI Masters student, Gavrila Ang successfully defended her thesis on assembly, annotation, and comparative phylogenomics of the convergent lady beetle, Hippodamia convergens! Scott recently presented his research on invasion population genomics of the pink rice borer, Sesamia inferens at the 2023 CSU Student Research Competition and beat out participants from all 23 CSU campuses to secure 2nd place! Congratulations, Scott - we're so proud of you!

Scott and Ali recently presented their research at the SDSU Student Symposium (S3), where they both gave excellent talks on population genomics of the invasive pink rice borer moth (Sesemia inferens) and hops (Humulus lupulus l.). Scott also won the President's Award for his talk, and advances to present at the California State University-wide competition! Congrats to both!

Scott and Ian presented their research on estimating heritability and plasticity of body size in Dinocampus coccinellae at the CSUPERB meetings in Santa Clara, CA, while Arun presented research on the D. coccinellae genome at the PAG30 conference in San Diego, CA.
